Leadership Council

The Leadership Council’s mission is to support the Oakland Partnership to facilitate economic development activities through cross-sector collaboration and intra-sector interventions to create opportunities and remove constraints.  These activities are contained in the Oakland Partnership’s Economic Development Strategy for Oakland presented at the Economic Summit on May 3, 2008.

As the Oakland Partnership moves to implement this strategy, the Leadership Council will be responsible for seeing the ‘big picture’ and ensuring that the plan as a whole presents a clear and cohesive direction for all stakeholders.  Ideally, the relationship of the Leadership Council to the working groups is not ‘top-down’ but collaborative.  Not only do working groups benefit from guidance, but the Leadership Council also will be in a better position to develop innovative and impactful overall strategies if it interacts continuously with working group leaders. Specific functions may include:

- Ensure that key issues across the full spectrum of stakeholders are being addressed;

- Identify and coordinate responses to cross-cutting issues that arise in several of the working groups;

- Develop key ‘top-level’ initiatives that require high visibility or levels of funding, and can only be accomplished with high-level support;

- Assess the progress of the individual working groups to ensure that their work product remains relevant and timely; and

- Provide a focal point for the media and community groups.
